In California, you can be seen directly by a physical therapist without a physician referral for up to 12 visits or 45 days, whichever comes first. However, some insurance plans still require a referral for coverage, so we recommend calling your insurance beforehand.

Your initial evaluation typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. This includes a thorough assessment, discussion of your goals, and the start of your personalized treatment plan. Follow-up visits are usually 30 to 45 minutes.

Please bring a photo ID (driver's license or state ID), your insurance card(s) (primary and secondary if applicable), and a physician referral or prescription if your insurance requires one (if it hasn't already been sent directly by your doctor).

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For example, if you're being treated for a knee injury, shorts are ideal. Athletic wear generally works well.

Some discomfort during therapy is normal, especially early on. Our goal is to work within your tolerance and never push you beyond what's appropriate. Communication with your therapist is key, so let them know how you're feeling throughout each session.

Every patient is different. After your initial evaluation, your therapist will outline an estimated treatment plan. Many conditions improve significantly in 6–12 visits, while others may require more time. We'll keep you informed every step of the way.

ARI Physical Therapy accepts most private insurance plans and Medicare. Because coverage and referral requirements vary by plan, call us at (661) 282-8584 and we'll verify your benefits before your first visit.

Our physical therapy is hands-on and provided in person at our Bakersfield clinic, 8200 Stockdale Hwy, Suite B2. We don't currently offer virtual visits.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask for at least 24 hours' notice so we can offer your appointment time to another patient who needs care.

Yes. Free parking is available right at our location, and we're easy to find: we're at 8200 Stockdale Hwy, Suite B2, Bakersfield, CA 93311, in the same shopping center as Trader Joe's (right next door).
